In this article, however, we want to explore the benefits of using olive oil on facial skin and on wrinkles, because since ancient times, olive oil has been seen as a true elixir of beauty with multiple properties.

INDEX

The Phoenicians called it “liquid gold,” the ancient Egyptians used it to soften the skin and make hair shiny, athletes in ancient Greece used it to massage and invigorate muscles while the Romans, after a thermal bath session, covered themselves with oil to restore bodily vigor.

Today many cosmetics contain a certain percentage of extra virgin olive oil that offers many benefits. Let’s see them.

Olive oil: properties

Olive oil contains beneficial substances that make it usable on the face to counteract various problems and promote skin wellness. Let’s see them in detail.

Olive oil contains:

  • Fatty acids such as linoleic acid and phytosterols that make the skin elastic and soft, against wrinkles;
  • Vitamin E, an antioxidant to counteract free radicals;
  • Vitamin A, for skin regeneration and repair and against acne (youthful and otherwise);
  • Beta-carotene, which provides elasticity;

Benefits of olive oil on the face

Having seen what ingredients olive oil contains for the benefit of our skin’s wellness, it is worth listing why we should use it daily to counteract or resolve problems of various kinds. First of all, let’s talk about its makeup remover function.

Makeup remover function and remedy against acne

Removing makeup with olive oil (or with an oil-based makeup remover) is the best thing you can do for your face. In fact, the oil effectively removes all impurities and makeup, easily. It leaves your skin particularly velvety and soft. Thanks to the purifying action of the oil, it will allow you to keep skin pores clean, also counteracting acne formation. Vitamin A is that element that allows you to repair and regenerate the skin.

Remember that olive oil is an excellent natural remedy against many problems such as Chalazion.

Emollient and moisturizing function

Olive oil applied to the face is a beauty product that helps to nourish and moisturize the skin deeply. Used even pure, it can be applied with a small cotton pad and then gently massaged with fingertips until absorbed. The oil, applied to the face, restores radiance to the skin, leaving it smooth and counteracting dullness. Furthermore, it is also used for relaxing facial massages, both to ensure that the skin completely absorbs the benefits and to keep the skin young.

Anti-aging properties of olive oil

Thanks to the presence of Vitamin E and Beta-Carotene, olive oil on facial skin has an elasticizing and anti-aging function. Applying small drops of oil to the face counteracts the onset of wrinkles, plumping the skin and giving it a healthy and relaxed appearance. Used even locally, gently tapped on the periocular area and around the mouth, it counteracts the small signs of time, leaving the skin more relaxed.

Having seen the properties of olive oil on the skin, we can also list some methods to use it effectively on the face. We can in fact create excellent scrubs to purify the skin or make face masks, to nourish deeply and counteract the signs of aging.

So let’s see how to do it.

Face scrub with olive oil

If you wish to purify facial skin with a homemade scrub based on olive oil, we recommend taking one or two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to which you add sugar (one or two teaspoons). Mixed uniformly, you can apply this natural scrub with your fingertips, massaging it gently without rubbing. Then remove with warm water.

If you want to prepare a body scrub or just to remove dry skin from the legs, you can use coarse salt or brown sugar instead of sugar, with slightly larger granules, more suitable for body skin.

Face mask with extra virgin olive oil

If you want to deeply nourish your facial skin and, at the same time, help it prevent aging, you can make an olive oil mask. For a simple procedure with natural ingredients, you can mix extra virgin olive oil (1 tablespoon) with half a tablespoon of raw honey and a tablespoon of baking soda.

Mix the compound in a bowl, blending well. Then apply to well-cleansed face with fingers or a brush. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes and rinse with warm water until completely removed.

You can do this face mask weekly or every 15 days, depending on your needs.

Used on the face, it allows you to obtain soft, clean and fresh skin.

Depending on your skin type, you can therefore decide to use it with a certain frequency. For example, if your skin is typically oily, you can consider using olive oil for periodic cleansing, either pure or through a scrub.
